Labor Day Weekend

We went back to Michigan for the holiday weekend. We had to go back so hubs could get a new to us used car. On Friday, we headed to the thumb to visit my parents in Caseville. Saturday the guys golfed and the girls made pie and read magazines. Sunday, we did some touristy things but of course I forgot my camera, ugh! We found the cutest little antique store! It is called The Haven in Port Austin. They had so many pretties!!!  This is what I picked up...

Some old wood spools, some with thread still on them and these 2 laced edged hankies. Total cost for all, only $5. I was surprised by the low prices. I could have stayed there all day but hubby was waiting for me outside the store...sigh.

Yesterday, we made the long drive back to Chicago made even longer by the holiday traffic. Good thing for the comfy new car!  Hope you had a great weekend!!!

Hugs!

Another Sneak Peek and the Chair

Morning!!! Ready for another sneak peek of my soon to be mailed swap box???? This time it's blue! No hiding the fact that those are blueberries!!!

I don't know why this picture appears to grainy. Hmmm...maybe from being cropped.
Here is the chair that use to be my great-grandmothers. It looks so nice in my foyer! Nanny would've been 110 this year and when I turned the chair over I found that it was stamped 110!!!!!!! How weird is that!?! It may look like an ordinary chair but it's special to me!

How should I dress her up??? Glad I'm going to the flea market on Sunday!
I am off to enjoy the warm weather, tomorrow a cold front blows on through from Canada. Saturday is only going to be 68 degrees! Someone forgot to flip Mother Nature's calendar to June. It has been unseasonably cool this whole spring/summer! Not good for the garden which is poking along!
Have a great day!!!
Hugs!

Thrift Store Finds and Garden Pics

Hello!!! I felt the need to hit the thrift store today and I'm glad I did!!! I found the cutest hand painted daisy picture for $3, a salt shaker for 29 cents and a milk glass sugar and creamer set for 58 cents. They are all so cute! I had been striking out the last few times I had gone thrifting but had fun today!

Everything all together.
A close-up of the daisy print. I may spray paint the frame black.

An even closer shot so you can see the painting detail.

The salt shaker has a plastic yellow top and the glass is greenish, it says China on the bottom. I thought it would be cute filled with white and yellow buttons. :-)

A close-up of the the cream and sugar set. They are rimmed in gold. I'm not usually a gold person but I really do like these!
Here is a picture of how the garden is coming along...you can mostly see the pumpkin plants. I will have to take a pic of the other side soon!
There are 6 pumpkin plants and it looks like we will have a good number of
pumpkins again this year.
Ok, I am off to craft. I have some things to make for the Berry Swap. Hope you're all having a great day!

I Won a Giveaway, A Treasure and My Daughter's Project

Morning!!! I have a lot to show you today. First off, I won a Giveaway from Nancy at Manic for Mosaics. This heart is so very beautiful!!! Thank you so much Nancy! I just love it!

Hanging alone so you can see all it's loveliness!

In it's new home on the shelf in the dining room.

This basket I found at the thrift store for only $1. I have a rooster/chicken thing going on right now! I need to find some more treasures for the top of the fridge. Please excuse the dust!

Next we have my daughter's project. We got her this cute little sewing machine for Christmas last year. This is the first chance she has had to pull it out and try her hand at sewing. This machine has done really nice on all the different fabrics that are in this baby quilt. There is flannel, a soft fluffy duck center, satin and regular cotton. I only have a picture of the center right now. She just started the side strips.

A great starter machine. The only draw back is the reverse lever is manual.

The center of the baby quilt. I will post a photo of the finished project.

Ok, I am off to work on the laundry that piled up while I was resting. That is one thing I really dislike about needing to rest...the laundry piles up!

Hope you are having a great day! Hugs!

I'm Still Here

Morning! I'm still here, I just don't have anything significant to tell you all. We are trying to get use to the new fall schedule here. So far every week has been different but that should change to a "routine" soon.

This Friday, I am teaching a rubber stamp/craft class. So I have been gathering supplies for that and I will be off to Michael's to see what else I could add. I will have pictures to show you soon of what we are going to make.

I want to thank everyone for their kind comments on my new blog look! You are all very sweet! I do really like this new look better! I found the new banner here. I am not computer savvy enough to do this on my own :-) lol.

I hope you are all enjoying your Tuesday! I will have things to show you soon. I have one treasure that needs to be photographed and I will hopefully have my craft project done soon to show you.

Hugs!

What I Did on My Summer Vacation!!!

Hello! Do you remember...the first week of school and having to write about what you did on your summer vacation? Well here is what I did on my summer vacation! Hubby had 4 days off to be in Michigan!!! We did a lot and I feel like I am still recovering!
The first thing we did on Saturday was picking some of our pumpkins!!! Aren't they cute!?! Yesterday I checked on the pumpkins in the patch and we now have one rotting. How sad!

Later in the day on Saturday we headed to the Detroit Tigers game! There's Magglio Ordonez in the right field!!! Unfortunately they lost but it was still fun! The nachos were sooo good!

On Sunday we went to the apple orchard for cider and donuts. We picked up a 1/2 bushel of Jonathan apples too. Yummy!!! No pictures...sorry...what was I thinking...I forgot to take a picture!

Monday we headed up north to Caseville to visit my parents and to do some treasure hunting! I found a yard sale on my parents street and we headed to the beach for buried treasure!

We found $1.73 buried on the beach along with a pull tab and a rusty. My dad found 3 pennies and a Barbie heart charm. He would have found more but he has the gift of gab and stopped to talk to a neighbor. We had so much fun! Can't wait to go again.

At the yard sale, the lady had everything marked 1/2 off. This isn't a great picture but I found a set of 4 of these snack sets. They are in perfect condition and only cost $5! I really like this rectangular design.

Tuesday we went to lunch and packed hubby back up to leave again. It really was a nice weekend! Now it's time to get things clean and organized around here. That is going a little slow...can't use the water because of a big water main break up the road. So we have to boil water for everything...no fun! But in comparison to Louisiana I am not complaining! I hope all our blogging friends are save and doing well post hurricane! Praying for you all!

So, that's what I did on my summer vacation! Hope you enjoyed yours too!

Hugs!

Award and This and That

Morning!!! I want to thank Jill at Jill's Junk to Jewels for this award!!! You are too sweet Jill! I am not sure I deserve this award but I am humbled to receive it! I am going to offer this award to all the blogs I read every day! You all inspire me to create, decorate, cook and on and on!!!

I want to thank everyone who has been praying for my daughter's friend and his friends and family. She and her bf will miss him sooo much but know he is now in heaven with the Lord he loves so much! He was a true inspiration to all!

I think I am off to the thrift store now and to Walmart for some groceries for the long holiday weekend! I'm so excited...hubby will be home early on Friday and won't have to leave again until Tuesday, later in the day! We are going to a Detroit Tiger's game on Saturday, the apple orchard on Sunday with DD's BF and his family then back here for an end of summer bbq, then on Monday we are headed to Caseville to visit my parents and to do some treasure hunting with the metal detector! I will post a picture of my metal detector treasure! (HEHE...nails, bolts and change!)

Hope you are having a wonderful day! Hugs!

Such Sweet Grandma's and a Couple Treasures!!!

Morning!!! Hope you all are enjoying your Monday! Last night my daughter brought me a couple of surprises from BF's sweet grandma's! I was so surprised! I know both of these sweet ladies and I'm so thrilled that they love my daughter! Grandma O was at the Antique Roadshow with BF's parents. While out and about she found this sweet amber pitcher and thought of me and how it would go nicely with my amber depression glass! Wasn't that sweet !?! Then Grandma Arlene sent home some homegrown peaches! (A sure sign of fall in Macomb County!) She, also, sent home a nice jar of peach jam! Yummy! My daughter asked me to cut up the peaches and here they are. They are delsih!!! The casserole they are in is from my thrift store expedition last week...only $2.50 and the rooster from the same day...25 cents.

Thank you Grandma O and Grandma Arlene! You are the best!
Have a great day!
Hugs!

Photos of My Treasures and the Perfume Bottle!

Hello again!!! Here are the photos of today's and yesterday's treasure hunting expeditions! I went back for the perfume bottle and it wasn't there. So I kindly asked the same lady from yesterday about it. She told me not so kindly that she had no idea about it. Since she was putting things on the shelves from yesterday's bucket of non-priced things (which they were to price last night) I kindly asked if it was still in the bucket. She not so happily checked the bottom of the bucket and there it was still not marked :( ...so I kindly said ok thanks anyway. As I was walking away, she said hold on and went in the back and had it priced. :-D So of course I kindly said "thank you very much!" For some reason this perfume bottle just HAD to come home with me! I'm so glad she decided to get it priced.

Well, if I haven't bored you to death by now with my little rant...here are the pictures of my treasures! (Remember you can click on them to enlarge them!)

This pink shelf I found today while wandering around looking for the perfume bottle. I am not sure whether it will stay pink (I know I hear you gasping!). Our home is decorated in greens and browns and other neutrals so I'm guessing it will become ivory. The blue bird house is my now cherished perfume bottle from Avon! I love it!!! It had a rose smelling perfume inside. Then there is a milk glass sugar bowl which I will put buttons in (which I forgot to take a photo of along with the vintage trim I found...sorry!). There is also a milk glass compote...a smaller version of the one I gave away in my giveaway, a milk glass votive holder and 3 rose prints that will look great in my green bathroom. (Hubby doesn't mind a little girly touch here and there but he wouldn't care for more).

A closeup...oh how sweet!!!

I think this shelf is going in my stamp room with my vintage Avon treasures.

I had bought 2 of the larger compotes last time so this one will sit by the larger one. The votive will probably find it's way to the small bathroom with the rose pictures. I forgot to tell you...I got all of these treasures for $13!!!

Have a wonderful Friday!!! Thanks for coming by today!!!

Hugs!!

Treasures

Good morning!!! Yesterday was a busy day filled with lots of errands! I did manage to sneak in 2 thrift stores though! Today, I am going back to one of the thrift stores to see if they priced the pretty Avon perfume bottle I really wanted! I guess their policy is to not sell something they didn't price :( The lady at the register said it would be priced last night...I hope so! I did find other goodies too but no photos yet because everything needs a super good soak in hot soapy water!

Well, today is yet another busy day! Lots to do before hubby comes home from Chicago! Hope you are all enjoying your day! I will be around to visit you all, here and there as I take a few breaks today! I will be posting photos ASAP this weekend! Have a wonderful day!
Hugs!!!

A few photos of my treasures

Morning! Today I thought I'd share a couple corners of my home. They are a mix of old and new treasures from flea markets, thrift stores, antique stores, local nurseries and Marshall's. When I see these photos I really see the need for color on the walls! I have such trouble picking out color! I am very color challenged when it comes to paint! I can pick colors of cardstock for my art, color for fabric and clothing but colors for walls puts me in a panic! I cannot explain it! Well I hope you enjoy these pictures (remember you can click on them to enlarge them)! My hubby has a list of things I need him to hang for me...so hopefully I can show you more photos in the coming weeks (he travels a lot, so we will see when he can get to them).

A little nook in the foyer. Apothecary jar from the Salvation Army, little birds, cage and nest in the cage from Weigand's Nursery, flowers from Michael's (years ago), conservatory candle holder was 50% off at Deneweth's Nursery, Willow Tree Angel a Christmas gift from DS and little birdhouse bell from a garage sale.

Corner of the foyer by the staircase. The table is a vintage wood plant stand that I
got at a garage sale for $10 (cracked top but still love it), bird house and glass footed bowl from Marshall's, candle from Target (years ago), eggs and fuzzy bird from Michael's, skeleton key from a flea market, pretty floral hand mirror from an antique store in Romeo, MI (cannot remember the name, it was years ago), birds from Weigand's Nursery and the necklace I purchased from Tiffany of Shabby Scraps.
Hope you all are having a great Monday! Happy treasure hunting and hugs!

Garden Fresh Picks!

Morning! Here is a picture of our first picking from our garden!!! Everything is sooo yummy! There is nothing like fresh fruits and vegetables out of the garden! (Except the farmers produce up the road...he has these same things plus the most wonderful sweet corn!) My tomato plants are so big and heavy with fruit that they are starting to topple over! DD and I were out there last night staking up their fences again.

My yo-yo project should be done this afternoon and then I will email the pictures to Donna at
DONNA'S-In The Attic, who is hosting the yo-yo challenge. After she posts the pictures, I will post them on my blog. I hope you will like it. I have a few more projects coming down the pipeline soon! More yo-yo's and some cards!

I should be treasure hunting again soon. I have been so busy here. I would like to go to the flea market but I'm not sure we will make it this weekend.

Hope you all are having a wonderful day!
Happy treasure hunting and hugs!

2 treasures and a giveway picture

Morning!!! Looks like rain today but that's ok...need to work inside today! Thank you to all who have left sweet comments on my 1000 hit and giveaway post! I love hearing from everyone! If you haven't entered yet...go one post down and leave a comment!

Here are pictures of some treasures...I got them at a thrift store called Rescued Treasures. They are having a sale until the end of August 50% off everything in the store. Their furniture is a bit pricey but their dishes and other "treasures" not so bad. They even had things like vases and individual plates and cups at 75% off. I ended up getting 2 identical milk glass footed bowls, 7 six inch bread plates by Franciscan (pattern Maytime), 4 snack plates with cups , a small milk glass vase and a milk glass candy dish... all for $12. I didn't think that was bad at all!

This is the vase with wildflowers from our creek.

This chicken planter came from the Salvation Army last week. I fell in love with it!

And this is the GIVEAWAY picture!!! One of the bread plates I picked up, one of the milk glass footed bowls and a little bird house that I picked up at a yard sale. This is my first giveaway, hope you like it!

Well, I guess that laundry is calling my name. Hope you all have a great day! Happy treasure hunting and hugs!!!

Saturday pumpkin update, over 1000 visits to my blog and my first giveaway!!!

Hello everyone! Here is the Saturday pumpkin update....every Saturday I have been tracking the growth of our first pumpkin. This week it has really grown! We have had hot and humid weather and these pumpkins seem to LOVE it! My hubby was teasing me this morning...asking when we were going to get the nasty letter from the Home Owners Association. I told him they can't say anything because there is nothing in the bylaws about gardens...then my DD chimes in "yeah, but does it say anything about having a farm?" Sheesh! They won't be teasing me when fall comes and we have lots of pumpkins that only cost a couple dollars!

"The Farm"...looks more impressive when you're up close...lol!

When I started this blog, I had no idea I would get over 1000 hits so quickly!!! And my plan was to have a giveaway at 1000 hits!!! Well today I hit that goal! Thank you to all my blog world friends for stopping by and leaving me such awesome comments, encouragement and blogging advice! I enjoy reading each and every comment and try to send a note to thank you! So to further thank you...it is time for my first giveaway!!! Monday I will post a picture of the giveaway (sorry no time this weekend...family coming in tomorrow from out of state). All you need to do is leave a comment on this post and on Saturday, July 26 I will draw the lucky winner!!! YAY!!!

Have a great weekend!!! Oh and I have some treasures to show you on Monday too!!! Hugs and happy treasure hunting!!!

I am back!

Good morning! I am back from my long break, hope you all had a great holiday!!! We had a good break but glad to be back to my own schedule. We spent some time here, some time at our Chicago-area apartment and a day in Caseville, MI. I have some pics of some of my new treasures coming up later today, hopefully. I found one at Marshall's near our apartment (sorry don't know the cities around Arlington Heights yet...we are new to this area) and I found some treasures at the Armada Flea Market here in Michigan. I didn't find much though, especially this last Sunday...a lot of booths but not a lot of finds. I probably could have found a lot on Saturday while headed to Caseville, but my parents expected us around a certain time so we didn't stop. I really wanted to though as we drove by thrift stores a big yard sales...sigh. While in Caseville I hoped to find some buried treasure in the woods behind my parents. We took the metal detector out there but only managed to find rusty nails, a bolt and a bent piece of wire...no good treasure. There were way too many people to take it down to the beach but maybe next time.

Wow that got long...still reading?? If so, I will get those pics taken today and try to post them too. Along with that I am going to catch up on email and all of your blogs! Can't wait to see what everyone has been up to!!!

Happy treasure hunting till then and hugs!
Kim
