Quilting, Learning Curve, Mug Rug

Here it is, the good the bad and the ugly!
My first attempt at making a really quilted anything...
it turned out wonky...
I learned along the way...
there are errors...
there are small victories...
have a looksie...
please don't laugh!

This is the back.
It looks better than the front.
By the time I got to the back...
I figured out how to attach the binding with
a pretty well hidden stitch.
I still need to work on ending the binding.

 This is the front.
I like the tree...
that's about it.
The front was where there are
the most trial and errors.
Ick!

The next one should be mucho better!

Learning to sew is hard.
I used a lot of tutorials out on the web
to learn from.
I hope to be as talented as some of you great quilters...
some day.

Practice, practice, practice...
That's the goal!

Have a great day!
Hugs!

Hubs Lap Quilt/Blanket

Morning!

I finally finshed this lap quilt/blanket.
I'm not sure what to call it, exactly,
I didn't officially quilt it.
I used old/vintage buttons in between the blocks.

Excuse the Emma hairs.
It has been very chilly here and we had to use it to stay warm!

I used a variety of brown and gray buttons from my stash.

I forgot to bring the quilt batting from Michigan.
It is still very warm with the backing of fleece.
I didn't bind it either.
I still need to practice this skill.
Know of any good tutorials???
Or, do you have any helpful suggestions???

I am linking up at Embellishing Life today.
Please pay her a visit and visit all the others linking up.

Have a great day!

More Quilt Top, 100th Post and Giveaway!!!

Hello!!! Wow it's already my 100th post! I never thought I'd ever come up with so much to share! In celebration of my 100th post it's giveaway time!!!! I decided on a spring theme with a little love thrown in...a little love for all my wonderful friends and followers!!! Below is just one item in my giveaway...more will be added through the week. Just leave me a comment any time I post this week, each comment will get an entry, so if you comment each day you get more chances to win! I will draw a lucky winner on Friday!!!

A little 4x4 frame with a felt applique, made by me. Inspired by the Premiere Issue of Homegrown Hospitality which I picked up at Archiver's. I hope you all like it! More items will be added remember! A little spring and a little love!
~~~~~~
On to the quilt progress. First off, I had extra fabric and some frames that I loved and picked up for the apartment last year. I didn't know what to put in the frames until I got this fabric. So, here's another color project for the dark drab apartment...
I hope you can see the pretty fabric when you enlarge the photo!
~~~~~
Here is the completed quilt top. I would have done a few things differently on the left side had a paid closer attention to the directions picture and hadn't followed the directions exactly. The seams didn't meet up, I thought it was more random and they weren't suppose to meet up until I re-looked at the picture. Oh well, sew and learn! Hubby won't mind! I bought the backing fabric on Saturday and will pick up some batting on Friday (it's 50% off at Joann's then plus an extra 10% of coupon!!!).

Hubby likes the fabric : )

I hope you all enjoy your day! I am off to clean and go to the dry cleaner. Fun stuff! Aren't you jealous!?!

Not Too Bad

Hello!!! Well the quilt top is coming along. Thank you for all your encouraging words!!! It's going pretty good, I did cut the last piece of fabric wrong : ( but since it's a random pieced quilt I substituted and when all is said and done...hubby won't even notice! The new sewing machine sews like a dream! Sooo much better than the ones of 30 years ago, when I learned to sew!

(Click to enlarge)
I really like the fabrics and the colors. This quilt will brighten the place up a bit : )
I will post the finished top in the next couple of days. My 100th post is coming up and I need to work on a giveaway. Still thinking on that one : ) I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Not sure what we are doing yet.
Hugs!

I Think I Can

Hello! Sorry it has been sooo long! I haven't done a whole lot until yesterday. I finally got brave and opened my new sewing machine. I promised myself that this is the year I will relearn to sew. I think I can, I think I can...I haven't sewn in 30 years...lol! So here goes....

First: Read the directions....ok...doesn't look too scary.
Step 2: Practice cutting with a rotary blade. I had never done this before...practice, practice, practice. Ok...got some good pieces. Now...practice straight lines and following the guide. Hey, that wasn't too hard. I think I finally have it down. The yellow piece was my first attempts and the white one is much straighter. I even tried quilting...FUN!

Next...fabric in pretty colors to go with our Chicago apartments inherited (from hubby's old boss's) furniture. We are so grateful for this IKEA furniture but the boss's wife's style wasn't mine. So I'm trying to add our own touch. I'm going to attempt a small quilt...GASP!

Iron, iron, iron. Today it's due or cry when I attempt to cut this pretty fabric. Wish me luck!!!
Hope you all are having a great week! Hugs!
