Facing a Fear and Johannesburg, MI

Hello! I am back from our long weekend! We were back yesterday but we had running around to do. We had a great time in Johannesburg! We even had a chance to face a fear for FREE!!! We took a drive to look at the fall colors and when we got to Boyne Mountain there was a sign that read: Free Skylift Color Rides. So, we decided to check it out. I couldn't believe that they were offering this for free! 3 of the 6 of faced our fears and decided it was possibly a once in a lifetime event. (The other 3 were not scared and were eager to hop on). So we got on the ski lifts for our very first and probably last times! LOL! Well, probably the last time for my hubby at least. I may try it again and our friend who was also, scared may try again.

The ski lift. It doesn't look too scary.

(Click on the photos to enlarge)

A bit of a blurry photo from above. This is where my hubby said in a very scared tone...SIT STILL AND BE QUIET! LOL!!! I was excited and not scared until this point. Seeing him scared made me scared! Almost panic attack kind of scared! Yikes, I couldn't wait to get to the top of the mountain!

PHEW! We made it to the top! The view was amazing!!! We really enjoyed our adventure and were glad we did it even though we were so scared! I was much better on the way down (not hubby...poor guy)

This is my daughter's bf's great grandfather's cabin. We didn't stay in this one but it's really cool!

The above cabin sits on this pretty little lake.

My daughter using the metal detector. She didn't find anything on the beach. Well, she did find a penny but it was one her bf hid in the sand to tease her!

The bf found this whatchamacallit from a gun. I can't remember the name of it. He found it in the woods by the cabin.

So, that was our pretty fall weekend! We visited a cool gift shop and hubby and dd's bf bought pocket knives and dd bought moccasins. Then we went in search of pasties...meat pies that are delicacies of the upper peninsula. We found them and had a yummy dinner :)

I hope you all had a great weekend too! Have a wonderful day! Hugs!

Kim

Hi Kim! See you already know me well! I just finished removing the last strip of wallpaper! What was I thinking!!!! Anyway glad you had a great weekend. BF seems like a nice guy, your daughter is lucky she has a nice one! I remember my first ski lift I wasn't scared til I got off and looked down at all the ice then I nearly panicked! Such a pretty view and I adore that little cabin! We will not mention the word "snow" yet! I should be mowin the lawn for the last time?? but it is soo windy and frankly I am exhausted now! Have a great night - Til later, Jeannette

I too would have been a bit scared on the lift... but WOW! What a treat! The red cabin is adorable, and on a lake to boot! Wish ours was on a lake, the only thing better than a cabin is a cabin on a lake! Glad you had a lovely weekend, thanks for the peek!

I've never been on a lift, either. Not sure if I could do it or not. It looks like the view was worth it.

Welcome home!
Those pictures are great and all that color! I would love to stay in a cabin "on the lake". Put me by water and I'm happy.

Wow Kim,
That looks like lots of fun and beautiful too. I thought you were going to showing being strapped to one of those lines like they do in the jungle... I can't understand the sit still be quiet though ;) Next time, I'd be happy to go along and we can talk up a storm, just no swaying!

How great you found your pasties, my grandma used to make them all the time when I was a kid - you brought back a great memory.

Happy day (sorry no treasures were found with the metal detector... maybe next time!).

Ohhhhh....that lake photos is HEAVENLY. As if I don't miss Michigan enough already!

Your weekend away sounds wonderful, and I hope it perked up your spirits. It has been so hard to be cheerful lately!

I finally decided a couple days ago...no more news shows and no more news websites until after the election. They are such downers. :-(((( So maybe my head's in the sand, but I sure am a lot happier with a mouth full of sand than a head full of negativity!
:-))))

Keep that porch light on -- I'll be back to Michigan!

Hugs, Ronda

Hi Kim,

Thank you for stopping by. I remember going to Boyne mountain as a child. The pictures are so lovely. I just love the color changes. We don't see them here in the Phx area but do in the higher elevations.

Have a truly wonderful weekend.

lots of hugs.

You are braver than me. My dh always wants to get on the one in Gatlinburg, TN but I won't do it. I have a fear of heights which is greatly aggravated when there is not much between me and the possibility of falling. I get dizzy at the top of stairs or in an auditorium where I'm having to sit up really high.

The view was beautiful, though! Love the color. We don't have that down here, especially not this year, even though we are having some cooler than normal for the south temperatures in October.
