Angel Food

Hello everyone! We had an ok weekend. Saturday, we did a few errands and cut the lawn. We had planned to see a movie in the evening but I just felt so down all day. As you a lot of you may know, my hubby had to take a job out of state last year. He works in Chicago during the week and comes home on the weekends. (He works with 2 others who do the same thing every week). I am so thankful that he is working but every so often it just feels so overwhelming. I'm not good at having to take care of everything but the yard by myself. I don't like being here alone most of the time. I know, that some will wonder why I stay here since I have 2 college kids. The answer to that is, we don't want to leave our daughter here with no family around in case of emergencies and her boyfriend lives almost an hour away. We just don't have many around here to count on in case she needs something...everyone we know is dealing with some of these same issues with jobs and stress. The economy is really taking a toll on everyone we know. So we are doing what is best for our family. It's just not easy at all. Then hearing the houses are suppose to lose 5-10% more of their value. This means our house will most likely not be able to sell for many years. Fortunately, we are lucky enough to be able to keep our house and have an apartment in Illinois.
All this to say...I've been really down lately.

Today another friend of ours (daughter's bf's dad) is waiting to see if today is the day he loses his job. They are letting people go at his job. My best friend's hubby is also waiting to see if he loses his job in the next month or so (he wasn't on the list for last weeks lay offs). And one of my best blogging buddies hubby has been out of work for months. I am so sad about this! My hubby had to find 2 jobs in the last 6 years because of cuts and businesses closing. I lost my job 5 years ago when the tool design shop I worked for closed. I just don't know where all these poor people are suppose to go to find jobs! What are they suppose to do with their homes that won't be able to sell to get to the jobs if they find one??? This is all just hurting my heart these days.

All that to say...I know of a ministry that anyone can use, whether you need help or not. My son uses this ministry in Oklahoma and some of our friends use it too. It is called Angel Food Ministries. You can order boxes of food each month for a small price. You can even order more than one of each package if your family eats more. The regular menu has stable safe milk...my son uses this in smoothies and milk shakes.

I just wanted to let you all know about this ministry. At least it's a little something I can do to help. That and praying!

So sorry to be such a downer...I am just so sad for our friends right now. I am thankful for my hubby's job, really I am. It's just hard.

Have a wonderful day! Hugs!

Hi Kim! Sorry to hear you are feeling down but rightly so! I am down a little myself today too but know I am in far better shape than 1/2 the country and really have nothing to feel bad about. It's just the whole world that is getting our spirits! The feeling that we all need to stop living in order to have a future!lol I have a tendency to feel bad for everyone and drag myself down with thoughts! Doesn't help that the kids are sick (my daughter has been to the dr. 2x last week for throat and nothing seems to be wrong; they gave her antibiot and she had a reaction w/hives&pain)Hope yours are feeling better? so I hear you & why you feel like you do (my hubby is here and I still deal w/everything!lol)Sorry didn't mean to make this bout me but you're not alone!!!!!!One hope is after the darn election things will look up????? Feel Better - Sincerely, Jeannette

I'm sorry to hear how things are going for you and your loved ones. Is there any chance your daughter could move with you and your hubby? Sometimes when things are tuff or there are obstacles you need to hold on to something..For me it was only God. My hubby and I have been through a few doozies. Big Ones!

I'm sorry your having a dumpy day Kim. It is scary out there. I decided to work part time instead of full time and now I'm wondering if it was the right decision. I'm having a real financial struggle with the difference in pay. I have to work #1 because I'm single and #2 my retirement does support me. It seems everyday something else goes up in price including our gas prices. And now the stock market is crumbling. It is really a scary time and I guess we should be so thankful for the things we have. Have a great rest of the week.

Hi Kim,
I have read about a few other blogging gals who's husband have lost their jobs and how very difficult it is for them. I feel so bad for them. Thanks for sharing about a place to go for food. I hope these gals do reach out to the sorces available to them. Sorry to hear you are down. :(
Times are changing and I do feel we are in a little depression.

Hi Kim! I'm so sorry you're so sad. I know how it is to have a hubby not home during the week. My hubby used to be gone from Monday until Friday and that was when our kids were little. I'm so sorry about all of your friends and the job situations. I know life can be so hard sometimes.

At the moment, I'm so very grateful to our God that He somehow through His grace and mercy spared our home from being distroyed by the hurricane. So many of my friends have lost everything they have. I'm so thankful!

I'll be posting again soon,
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I totally understand what you are talking about except that I'm not having to deal with my husband being gone all the time. My husband is self-employed as a chicken farmer. With costs of everything going up like they have, especially gasoline and propane, this is making it so hard to make any profit on the farm that my hubby has taken on another part time job. We just recently had lay offs at the hospital. My son-in-law has not been able to find a job since he and my dd moved back here from Texas. Times are indeed getting hard.

Sorry that you are feeling down. All I know to do at times like that is to pray. If you ever need to vent feel free to email me and I'll be glad to correspond.

Thanks for the reminder about Angel Food Ministries. I just heard about that last week from a friend at work, but forgot to call the church associated with it. I'm going to do this myself and have told my 2 dd's about it.

Kim,

Oh gosh, I am feel bad to know you are doing this and feeling so low right now. This is a tough season on so many people we know and most of us, but you have some added stuff with your kids needing you and you needing your husband! My husband also travels and I miss him like crazy. This has gone on for years and it truly has gotten easier over time. Hang in there!!

Great idea to share the ministry you did also!

(((((((Kim)))))))),

It's okay to feel down sometimes..don't ever apologize for it...if everyone went around being all happy all the time..we would never realize how wonderful the good times really are. It gives us something to look forward to..something to be thankful for..teaches us the value of life. What we need to do is make a big pan of brownies..put a chick flick in..and eat every last brownie as we laugh our heads off!

Love, Angie

Hi Kim,
I think most of us feel kind of down right now.I told myself this morning that I am going to stop watching the news before work as it makes my day even more dismal.
I am so sorry about your friends being laid off and having to have your hubby going out of town has got to be so hard. Our house isn't selling and I doubt it will any time soon. Its just some hard times right now but I am going to try to keep looking up. Thanks for the Angel Food reminder. I will be sure to pass it one.

Hi Kim, I'm sorry you are feeling down. Here I was last weekend thrilled to be left alone and you are having to deal with it on a regular basis. The job security worries are heavy on everyone's mind lately. It certainly makes you wonder how some people (athletes for example) can make SO MUCH money and for others it is a daily struggle.

I'm hope you are feeling a bit better by the time you read this.

My thoughts are with you.

take care,
Dawn

Hi Kim,

It is more than O.K to be sad or get down. It really makes us appreciate the good times and what is important in life.

The housing market in Az has gone right down the tubes. We couldn't sell if we wanted to at this point. This is where faith comes in.

I pray daily about my hubby's job. My oldest son was laid off and is thinking about joining the Marines.
Since he called this morning, I have been teary on and off (more on than off actually).

Hang in there. That is all we can do.

hugs,
Barb

Kim, you are entitled to your feelings about your husband's job situation. I would think that most people would feel the same way in your situation.

I'm going to check out Angel Food Ministries - my husband and I used to run a very tiny little food pantry for our church at the time out of our house about 16 years ago and the food pantry ministry is still very near to his heart.

((HUGS)) It's defiantly uneasy times these days. Everything is going up and jobs are nowhere to be found. I've heard about Angel Food but have never tried them. My mother used to do the Share program, I believe it's pretty much the same thing.

Hi Kim, I know how you feel . The economy is really taking it's toll on families. And I'm afraid it's going to get worse before it gets better . We all need to put on the whole armor of God and trust in him. I always say "if he brought me to it , he'll see me through it".
Kim , it is good to let it out.You can call me or email me anytime day or night. My email address is on my blog.
Have a blessed day Kim dear.

Hi Kim (me again!),
I just wanted to say you're are not alone... I think it's a good thing you chose to speak about this since so many of us are feeling it these days. My hubby travels a lot so I get where you're coming about being alone. We live in a cute little town, but it's unfortunate that's it's become a tourist town. We see a lot of excess here. It's really unfortunate to see people taking things for granted when so many of us are hurting during this time.

I know you're feeling better today, so that's wonderful. Just wanted to let you know, you are not alone ;)
